The Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby winners for the month of July are in.
Michael Claymore from Lake Stevens, Washington reeled in a 17 kg (37 lb 10 oz) Chinook salmon on July 29 taking first place just two days before the month end deadline and a $5,000 prize.
Second place went to Bill Sils from Bainbridge Island, Washington. Sils won $2,000 after hauling in a 16.7 kg (36 lb 12 oz) Chinook on July 18.

Ucluelet local Romauld Marczyk placed a close third for a 16.6 kg (36 lb 11 oz) Chinook on July 29, taking home $1,000.
The top 15 fish of May, June and July along with the top 50 fish of the season are automatically entered into the 2nd annual Fish Off from September 9 to 11.
The derby is a summer-long competition, with a portion of proceeds going to the Thornton Creek Hatchery.
