Derby awards $7000 for fish

Todd Jennings of High Roller charters was presented with a cheque for $7,000 as the first monthly winner in the Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. He caught his prize winning fish, a 35 lb. 3 oz. chinook on June 27th off Lighthouse Bank, using a Hootchie lure. He purchased his derby ticket at the Number 1 Market and has decided to take out a Gold Sponsorship for the derby with some of his prize money.

Mike Marriot of Long Beach Charters won $2,000 for second place for his 31lb, 8 oz. chinook caught off South Bank. He bought his derby ticket at the Canadian Princess and returned his winnings to the Salmon Enhancement Society for sponsorship next year.

Third place winner was Bill VonBrendel with a 31lb. 6 oz chinook off south bank.

Paul Grimston of Castaway Charters took 4th place with a 30 lb. 4 oz chinook caught off Great Bear Rock; he too has decided to donate the prize money back to the enhancement society.

The 5th place winner was Allen Henne.

All of these winners will be included in the “Fish Off” in September.
